Tottenham plot move for 14-goal Serie A star

Tottenham Hotspur could be gearing up for a big season.

It's safe to say that last term didn't exactly go to plan for the north London side as matters off the pitch seemed to impact matters on it.

Despite Jose Mourinho joining the club midway through the season, Spurs were only able to finish the season in sixth place to tee up a spot in this season's Europa League.

On the balance of last season this was seen as a decent outcome, but make no mistake the same standards won't be tolerated this time around.

Mourinho has been brought into the club to win silverware and establish the club as one of England's top clubs.

If they're to do that then they certainly need to improve results on the pitch.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty were first to arrive this summer, before a stunning double deal sent a real signal of intent to their rivals.

Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale arrived at the club from Real Madrid and will almost certainly improve the first team.

However there's still another deal that the club are craving.

Tottenham seem to have been targeting a new striker since the beginning of time, but according to reports they may be stepping up their interest in one target.

Reports from Calciomercato have claimed that Spurs are opening talks over a deal for Arkadiusz Milik.

The Napoli striker is out of contract next summer and with no agreement over an extension imminent, it seems that he could be available to move on

Milik was thought to be closing in on a move to Roma, but with that deal falling through it seems that Daniel Levy is preparing to open talks to get a deal over the line.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Arkadiusz Milik has 'Groundhog Day' feel about it.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Napoli man for a long time but so far they haven't been able to strike a deal.

For whatever reason, it just hasn't happened.

Milik is certainly a top player after scoring 14 goals for Napoli last term, and that's why there's so much interest in his services.

Valued at £28.8million by Transfermarkt, the striker is out of contract next term and with no new deal likely to be agreed the Italian side might be under pressure to sell.

It's claimed that they want £30million, but I'm sure that Spurs will be keen to haggle over that sort of deal.
