Arsenal told what they must do to secure deal for goalkeeping ace

Arsenal are enjoying a productive summer so far.

Last season was a difficult campaign for the Gunners with life under Unai Emery proving to be far from successful.

But with Mikel Arteta coming into the club partway through the season, things started the change.

As well as promoting a positive brand of football the Spaniard has instilled a no-nonsense culture at the club which, in truth, is long overdue.

As a result, the north London club are really starting to feel like they're on the right track.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing a new long-term contract, the club are looking to strengthen their squad with players with the right level of ability, and more crucially, the right mentality to embrace the challenge of playing for a top club.

Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes have already completed moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer, while a number of other players have been targeted.

One position that is being prioritised is between the sticks.

Emiliano Martinez completed a move to Aston Villa earlier this week, and that means that signing a goalkeeper is now a priority.

One player who has been linked it David Raya.

The Brentford goalkeeper enjoyed an excellent season last time out as the Bees narrowly avoided promotion through the play-offs.

The 25-year-old conceded just 42 goals in 49 appearances for Thomas Frank's side, and that has alerted Arsenal to his services.

According to The Telegraph, Arteta's side have had a £10million offer rejected for the stopper.

It's claimed that Arsenal would need to agree to loan the player back to Brentford for the duration of the season in order to get the move over the line.

Whether that happens remains to be seen, but it appears that the Gunners certainly mean business as they chase down this deal.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is certainly a deal that's worth watching.

Valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt, David Raya is arguably the best goalkeeper in the Championship at the moment and so it's only natural that he's attracting interest from the top flight.

With Bernd Leno the undisputed first choice, I'm just not sure what the appeal would be in a move.

Unless Raya is being lined up as a replacement he's not likely to be happy playing the role of a second choice goalkeeper.

Brentford are doing well at present and could be in the top flight before long, and so perhaps the stopper would be better served sticking around with the Bees.
